Sound familiar?
- Deplatformed or demonetized, with no one to ask why.
- The platform sends your viewers wherever it wants them to go.
- The ads in your content don't perform.
- "Click the link below" is doing less every month.
- You built the audience, and you still don't feel in control of it.
What if the platform worked for the creator, instead of the other way around?
What your feedback decides
- Which tier you would pick.
- Run your own advertising and pay for your own delivery, take a split on advertising we bring you, or run free and leave the ad money to us. The three are set out below. Tell us which one you would choose, and what would move you up a tier.
- What the markup on your own costs should be.
- If you run your own advertising, we bill what your channel costs to serve plus a markup, and the markup is the part nobody has set yet. Tell us what you would consider fair, and what a statement would have to show you to believe it.
- Which ad formats actually work in your content.
- Your own slots and your own affiliate links run today. We want to know what would beat "click the link below" for your audience.
- How viewers find you without an algorithm deciding for them.
- Subscriptions, curated channels, and ratings from real people are the start. What else would bring the right viewers to your work?
- What you need to know about your audience.
- The numbers you would actually use, not the ones a dashboard happens to show.
- What fair moderation looks like.
- We hold a content standard, described below. You help decide how it is applied, how disputes work, and what you are owed when something is flagged.
- What would make you move a channel here.
- The feature, guarantee, or tool that would make Veamcast worth it to you. That goes to the top of the list.
You help set the price, including your own.
Veamcast will have three kinds of channel. What separates them is who controls the advertising and who keeps what it earns. The more of it you run yourself, the more of the money is yours, and the more of the delivery you pay for.
- Free
- Nothing to pay. Ads run against your channel and you get some say in which ones, but the ad money is ours. Nothing is billed to you and nothing is paid to you.
- Revenue share
- You choose your advertising from a set we bring you, and we split what it earns with you. This tier carries a low fee, and you have to be verified and vetted to join it. The fee is waived for early adopters.
- Your own advertising
- You sell your own slots, run your own affiliate deals, and keep all of what they earn. We take no share of it. In exchange you pay what your channel costs to deliver, plus a markup.
Batch 1 is being invited into the top tier, so that last bill is the one that concerns you. We meter what your channel actually costs to deliver, store and serve, and we bill you that plus a markup. What the markup should be is the open question, and nobody can answer it honestly until real channels run at real volume. Working that out with you is a large part of what this first batch is for.
To give you a starting point: serving a channel currently costs roughly {{TODO_JOE: $X per 1,000 views}} to deliver, before markup. That figure will move as we measure real channels.
One thing worth separating out, because the two get read as the same thing: the fee that is waived for early adopters is the revenue share tier's fee, waived for any early adopter who chooses that tier. Batch 1 is being invited into "Your own advertising", where there is no revenue share fee to waive, because Veamcast takes no share of what your own ads earn. What you pay there is metered delivery plus the lowest markup Veamcast will ever charge.
- Batch 1 pays the lowest markup we will ever charge. You are taking on the most risk and doing the most work, so you get the best terms on the platform. The rate you join at is the rate you keep, through launch and after.
- Every batch after yours pays more. Each group joins a more finished product with fewer unknowns, and the markup goes up to match. Your deal does not move when theirs does.
- Public pricing gets written from what we learn together. Your real bills, your real usage, and your answers on what counts as fair become the model everybody after you is offered.
You get written terms before you are billed for anything. See how the billing works.
Who we are looking for
Good content. We are saying that plainly because it decides who we work with.
Outrage converts, hateful clickbait is profitable, and every recommendation engine on the internet has already learned both. We are building the other thing on purpose. We would rather grow a smaller catalog we would defend than a larger one we would not.
If you have been making careful work and watching it lose to rage bait, this is aimed at you. And the catalog is open ground: there is no backlog of established channels ahead of you in any category.
Tell us what you need.
It takes a minute. We read every one, we write back, and what you tell us shapes what we build next.
